1 Reyes 2: El mejor consejo de un padre a su hijo.

1 Reyes 2:1-12: (Por cuestión de espacio limitado para las notas, favor leer en su biblia estos versos o el capítulo completo por preferencia)

Vs.1-4 Cuando se acercaban los días de la muerte de David, mandó a su hijo Salomón diciendo: “Yo me voy por el camino de todo el mundo. Tú, esfuérzate y sé hombre. Guarda lo que el SEÑOR tu Dios te ha encomendado, para andar en sus caminos y guardar sus estatutos, sus mandamientos, sus decretos y sus testimonios, como está escrito en la ley de Moisés, para que tengas éxito en todo lo que hagas y en todo lo que emprendas; a fin de que el SEÑOR cumpla su promesa que hizo acerca de mí, diciendo: ‘Si tus hijos guardan sus caminos andando delante de mí con fidelidad, con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, jamás te faltará un hombre sobre el trono de Israel’.

En este capítulo David murió, pero antes le dio un consejo a Salomón para que tenga un reino próspero y firme. Primero lo animó para que no decaiga su ánimo al sentirse solo sin el apoyo de su padre. Le dijo que se esfuerce, que confronte el dolor sin dejarse derrumbar por el luto, sino que se enfoque en seguir adelante con su nueva posición de líder.
También le enseñó que debe guardar la Palabra de Dios y la ponga en práctica. Que si lo hace, tendrá la garantía de que todo lo que haga y emprenda le saldrá bien y con éxito.

Estos consejos son muy acertados para nuestros hijos. Varones y hembras deben escuchar y recibir estos consejos de sus padres, especialmente nuestros hijos varones porque estamos viviendo tiempos difíciles, donde la sociedad de hoy está tratando de menoscabar la imagen y el rol del varón. Las corrientes filosóficas que se mueven en el mundo del entretenimiento, en las películas, en la música y también el mundo educativo como en las escuelas y en las universidades, han construido una imagen distorsionada y negativa hacia el varón. Es por eso que debemos afirmarles a nuestros niños que ellos tienen la capacidad de enfrentar sus pruebas, de reponerse después de un momento de crisis. Que expresen sus emociones y que también las puedan controlar. Que no se queden en ese hueco depresivo de tristeza y frustración. Que se paren en la brecha, luchen por sus vidas y defiendan sus convicciones. Que tomen la responsabilidad que Dios y la vida les puso en sus manos y que lo hagan con honor.
También que Dios es el que los va a llenar de favores y misericordias, el que los va a dirigir en sus emprendimientos y que van a encontrar en el Señor esa plenitud para sus vidas. Es por eso que nunca deben de apartarse de la gracia de Dios, que nunca dejen de congregarse, de estudiar la Palabra de Dios, de escuchar los consejos pastorales y que construyan una vida de oración y meditación en el Señor. De esa manera, sus empresas, profesiones, matrimonios y relaciones en general tendrán la aprobación y la gracia de Dios sobre ellos. Que hagan un balance en sus vidas y no piensen que no basta con ser exitoso en una sola área, sino que Dios les ayudará para que hagan un balance saludable entre el área financiera y profesional, la vida emocional y espiritual.
David murió en paz sabiendo que Salomón, a su joven edad, estaba listo para ser rey y terminar los asuntos pendientes de David. David sabía que Salomón haría un gran trabajo porque había visto que Salomón había desarrollado sabiduría. ¿Cómo sabía esto? Porque David había tomado el tiempo para instruir a Salomón en la Palabra de Dios durante su niñez, adolescencia y juventud, como podemos leer en los proverbios los consejos que él recibió de su padre y su madre.

Y nosotros, los padres, ¿estamos inculcando a nuestros hijos a que escudriñen las Escrituras? ¿Los aconsejamos basado en ellas? ¿Estamos fortaleciendo el carácter de nuestros hijos e hijas?

1 Kings 3: What are you asking God to grant you?

1 reyes 3:3-15:
And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense at the high places. Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.” Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.

The December season is full of wishes, hoping to receive some gift from a loved one. Children make lists of their favorite toys. When someone receives something they have been longing for on a special date such as a birthday or wedding anniversary, the feeling is one of great joy.

Solomon was a young king who learned to love God and sought God with his heart. After offering many sacrifices to God in gratitude, God was pleased with Solomon's heart that He offered to grant him anything. Solomon did not ask God for what all kings ask for: fame, riches and power, because Solomon had one priority in his heart and that was to rule with justice and righteousness. God was pleased with Solomon's attitude that He not only gave him wisdom but also fame, riches and power.
This good gift of wisdom is the key to be an exemplary leader and govern justly, to discern between good and bad, to make wise decisions in difficult times!
In James 3:13-18 two types of wisdom are mentioned: earthly and heavenly. Nowadays the youth and people use “earthly” wisdom to reach positions of power, to create wealth and gain recognition. Riches, fame and power without genuine wisdom turns the human being into a tyrant, despot, cold, mean, arrogant and soulless.
On the other hand, the heavenly wisdom that comes from above is pure, peaceful, benign, merciful and bears good fruit. A person with wisdom from above always seeks to do good works, always reaps peace and goodness, gains knowledge of God, allows himself to be guided by God, and God rewards him.
Let us follow this good example of Solomon who asked the wisdom of god.

IIn James 1:5 we see this advice: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
What a powerful statement! God is very kind that He will give us wisdom in abundance when our heart is sincere. He is pleased when His children have the faith and confidence to ask for something that is not harmful, something that does not come from a heart full of greed or selfishness.
The wisdom from above doesn't hurt anyone. It's a good quality that will make our hearts and our minds able to handle well the things that hurt people due to lack of wisdom. Without wisdom the things we do will be temporary, useless or will fail in the important areas: the spiritual as the relationship with God and the emotional as the family, etc.
If we ask God for wisdom and we get it, we can guide ourselves in the right way, make a good balance in the areas of our life, doing good before God, honoring Him, respecting Him, obeying Him, and remain firm until the end.
