1 Samuel 16: Reconociendo el potencial de mi hogar

16 Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Samuel: —¿Hasta cuándo has de llorar por Saúl, habiéndolo yo desechado para que no reine sobre Israel? Llena de aceite el cuerno y ve; yo te enviaré a Isaí, de Belén, porque de entre sus hijos me he provisto de un rey.
2 Samuel preguntó:
—¿Cómo voy a ir? Si Saúl se llega a enterar, me matará.
El SEÑOR respondió:
—Toma contigo una vaquilla del ganado, y di: “He venido para ofrecer un sacrificio al SEÑOR”. 3 Invita a Isaí al sacrificio; yo te enseñaré lo que has de hacer, y tú me ungirás al que yo te diga.
4 Samuel hizo lo que dijo el SEÑOR. Cuando llegó a Belén, los ancianos de la ciudad salieron a recibirlo temblando y preguntaron:
—¿Es pacífica tu venida?
5 Él respondió:
—Sí, es pacífica. Vengo para ofrecer un sacrificio al SEÑOR. Purifíquense y vengan conmigo al sacrificio.
Después de purificar a Isaí y a sus hijos, los invitó al sacrificio. 6 Y aconteció que cuando ellos llegaron, él vio a Eliab y pensó: “¡Ciertamente su ungido está delante del SEÑOR!”. 7 Pero el SEÑOR dijo a Samuel:
—No mires su apariencia ni lo alto de su estatura, pues yo lo he rechazado. Porque el SEÑOR no mira lo que mira el hombre: El hombre mira lo que está delante de sus ojos, pero el SEÑOR mira el corazón.
8 Luego Isaí llamó a Abinadab y lo hizo pasar ante Samuel, quien dijo:
—Tampoco a este ha elegido el SEÑOR.
9 Después Isaí hizo pasar a Sama. Y Samuel dijo:
—Tampoco a este ha elegido el SEÑOR.
10 Isaí hizo pasar a siete de sus hijos ante Samuel, y este dijo a Isaí:
—El SEÑOR no ha elegido a estos.
11 Entonces Samuel preguntó a Isaí:
—¿Son estos todos los jóvenes?
Y él respondió:
—Todavía queda el menor, pero he aquí que está apacentando las ovejas.
Samuel dijo a Isaí:
—Manda a traerlo, porque no nos sentaremos a comer hasta que él llegue aquí.
12 Isaí mandó por él, y lo hizo entrar. Era de tez sonrosada, de bellos ojos y de buena presencia. Entonces el SEÑOR dijo:
—¡Levántate y úngelo, porque este es!
13 Samuel tomó el cuerno de aceite y lo ungió en medio de sus hermanos. Y desde aquel día en adelante el Espíritu del SEÑOR descendió con poder sobre David.
Luego Samuel se levantó y regresó a Ramá.


Este capítulo está lleno de grandes lecciones.
Vemos que Dios le envía a Samuel a que ungiera a uno de los hijos de Isai pero le advierte de que no se deje llevar por la apariencia exterior, porque Dios mira el corazón.
Es por eso que cuando Samuel ve al mayor inmediatamente piensa que es el elegido, pues tenía características similares a las de Saul, alto, fornido y apuesto.
Inmediatamente el Señor detiene a Samuel y le dice que él no era.
Pasaron siete hijos al frente y ellos no eran los escogidos. Samuel insiste al padre que si él tenía otro hijo y dice que sí pero que era el menor y cuidaba las ovejas.
Aquí vemos una gran lección. Isaí menospreció a David, asumiendo que él no tenía las capacidades para ser rey. Tal vez por ser con una apariencia más delicada, menos masa muscular, más pequeño y posiblemente menos apreciado que los demás, David fue llamado para que el profeta lo viera y, ante todas las opiniones contrarias, Dios lo confirmó como rey. ¿Por qué? Porque Dios conocía su corazón. Un corazón honesto, valiente, responsable, sensible a la voz de Dios, y porque tenía un corazón adorador.
En el cuidado de las ovejas, nadie veía la formación que David estaba teniendo. Si saberlo estaba siendo capacitado para derrotar gigantes, dirigir ejércitos y dar justo juicio entre los habitantes del pueblo.
Sin saberlo, Isaí tenía un rey cuidando las ovejas!
Pensemos hoy si estamos cometiendo el error de Isaí, juzgando por las apariencias y menospreciando las actitudes y cualidades que Dios ha puesto en nuestra pareja o nuestros hijos. Muchas veces formamos la opinión de los miembros de nuestra familia, y muchas veces negativa, basados en actitudes del pasado. Juzgamos su forma de ser y no creemos en el potencial que ellos pueden llegar a ser por la apariencia mas no por lo que ellos pueden convertirse en las manos de Dios.
Espero que hoy podamos hacer una evaluación honesta de la forma en que vemos nuestro hogar, y comencemos a ver con los ojos de Dios, lo que Dios puede hacer con cada uno de ellos cuando se pongan en las manos de Dios.
Comienza a ver ese líder espiritual que va a desarrollar sus dones en un futuro no muy lejano, cuando ellos vean que tu crees en ellos. No mires sus defectos, mira su potencial.

1 Samuel 16:1-13:
Now the Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.”
And Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.”
But the Lord said, “Take a heifer with you, and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you.”
So Samuel did what the Lord said, and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, “Do you come peaceably?”
And he said, “Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice.
So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him!”
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
So Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.”
And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.” So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

This chapter is full of great lessons. We see that God sent Samuel to anoint one of Jesse's sons but beforehand He warned him not to be carried away by outward appearance because God looks at the heart.
That is why when Samuel saw the eldest, he thought he was the chosen one because he had similar characteristics to Saul: tall, stocky and handsome.
Immediately the Lord stopped Samuel and told him that he was not.
Seven sons passed to the front and none were chosen. Samuel insisted to the father asking him if he had another son and he answered yes, that he is the youngest and takes care of the sheep.
Here we see a great lesson. Jesse looked down on David, assuming that he did not have the qualifications to be king. Perhaps for being of a delicate appearance, less muscular mass, smaller and possibly less appreciated than the others.
David was called to be seen by the prophet and, in the face of all contrary opinions, God confirmed him as king. Why? Because God knew his heart. An honest, brave, responsible heart, sensitive to the voice of God, and because he had a worshiper's heart.
In caring for the sheep, no one saw the training that David was undergoing. Without knowing it, he was being trained to defeat giants, lead armies, and give fair judgment among the townspeople. Without knowing it, Jesse had a king tending the sheep!

Let us think today if we are making Jesse's mistake, judging by appearances and underestimating the attitudes and qualities that God has placed in our partner or our children. Many times we form an opinion of our family members, and many times it is negative, based on past attitudes. We judge their way of being and do not believe in the potential that they can become by appearance, not by what they can become in the hands of God.
I hope that today we can make an honest evaluation of the way we see our loved ones; let's begin to see with the eyes of God, what God can do with each one of them when they put themselves in God's hands.
Start seeing that spiritual leader who is going to develop their gifts in the not too distant future, when they see that you believe in them. Don't look at their flaws, look at their potential.
