Sono due colpi di pistola, ma bastano per scatenare l'apocalisse: il 28 giugno, quando Gavrilo Princip preme il grilletto e uccide Francesco Ferdinando d'Asburgo e sua moglie Sophie, non può sapere che sta causando l'avvenimento che dà inizio a tutta la storia del Novecento. L'attentato di Sarajevo occupa un posto cruciale nella storia dell'umanità, ma si tratta anche di un avvenimento pieno di zone d'ombra e di misteri, che ancora oggi sfidano gli storici. Fu concepito solo da Princip o c'entravano le alte sfere dell'esercito serbo? Il governo serbo sapeva? Vienna era stata messa in guardia? E come mai le misure di sicurezza, quella fatale mattina, furono tragicamente insufficienti? Proviamo, facendoci guidare dagli storici più autorevoli, a dare una risposta a tutte queste domande.
