Paul said he would bring George Harrison and John Lennon with him. In the Fall of 1969 a rumor swept around the world alleging that Paul McCartney, singer and bassist for the Beatles, was dead. In fact, that he had died on November 9, (some say 09-11-1966)1966 in a fiery car crash while heading home from the EMI recording studios. Various clues were used to suggest the following story: (on 9 November 1966), McCartney had an argument during a Beatles' recording session and had angrily driven off in his car. He had crashed it and died as a result. To spare the public from grief, the Beatles replaced him with "William Shepard also known as Billy Shears or William Campbell", the winner of a McCartney look-alike contest and a talented musician. Countless clues and subliminal messages began everywhere and the Beatles camp refuted it, claiming a hoax.
