Every single month I save some money and invest in myself, my art and my creative career. Whether it is a month when I have loads come in or it’s a lean month I chose to invest in myself even if it is a small amount.

I have series of savings pots to financially invest in my creativity and helps with my mindset I am a freelancer so my income is always irregular.
As well as investing time in my creative career in terms of the organising, practising my art forms, working with others on their shows, getting new work, I also keep on developing my craft and saving money for myself.


As per podcast episode 31 I look at whats due to be paid to me, and my outgoings for the month ahead before the month starts.
I fund and finance my own productions

Light version – one saving pot call it ‘my art’ and put money in every month even if its just a small amount
Whether you are making a film, creating a show, working on a book and a media campaign to go with it, you need cash to help.
From venue fees, consultant fees, to production and research needs money does help the artists world go round.

I have a ‘gigs’ pot. I save into it every month, and much more when I know I have big expenses to come. For example when I knew I was going to gig in Australia and my ticket sales would not get received til months after I came back, I worked out and started saving. Living in Australia for 6 weeks and of course the flights, accommodation, travel food and other costs. The gigs were in February and March – I started saving in the previous September so I was not stressed about paying my bills in London whilst working in Australia. Nor did I come back to huge overdrafts or bills I could not pay.

My ‘Future tech’ pot is for future technology, a new phone, laptop, music and tech equipment for future and better versions and upgrades for software,
When I drain down a pot by pulling cash out of it eg buying a new phone or computer I then go back to filling it back up. If I am saving for larger purchases eg a new laptopn then I might add £500 a month in there til I have got the cash to buy what I want

My ‘Dues & subscriptions’ pot – I put a monthly amount in for annual fees from domains and web hosting to my annual acting Spotlight UK casting directory fee,. So when the direct debit comes out of my bank I already have money in my dues and subscriptions pot to just move over and it does not overly effect that months budget as I have already saved for it

This way I know that what I want to do say the Edinburgh Fringe and have cash waiting to go to pay fringe fees.
It allows me flexibility and choices, mental freedom too.

Having money in the bank to support your creative career is important and gives you choices and a feeling of control on months when you have less money coming in. You can choose to see work, research, do a workshop, attend a festival that you like the idea of or hire collaborators.

Putting creative plans into action can often include hiring people and spaces, if you already have some of the money pre saved it helps you choose.

About me, Marysia Trembecka

I am at heart a storyteller and this has translated from the initial creation of work to being a performer, including film and theatre acting, writing and performing international touring comedy shows to MCing.

Highlights include sell-out Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe shows, singing at the Royal Festival Hall in 23 different languages, as well as doing TEDx talks and corporate gigs, such as the Brit Awards Afterparty at the 02 as my ‘The Singing Psychic’ bio queen character.

My ‘THE SINGING PSYCHIC’ who ‘reads the songs in your heart’ also has a GAME SHOW version, and was a finalist in Best Show, Funny Women in 2016, and I have toured internationally since then.
I have also produced five webseries as the character including my 23 episode SONGS OF BREXIT webseries I made for the June 2016 EU Referendum, on the pros and cons of the EU, I started the web series singing The Clash’s ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go Now’. It was very wll received due to the blend of education and entertainment, and I ended up on London Live and even a BBC2 Live Debate on the National Living Wage amongst other press of the back of that.


I also was awarded Arts Council funding for research on a solo show on how we are all judged by our sexuality, so as part of that, I interviewed people on the cutting edge of sexual politics. From this I then created another character ‘Queen Of The F*cking World’ which has also toured internationally from Glasgow WOFF film festival in the female perspective strand to sell-out London, Edinburgh and Adelaide runs. I sing and play the bass guitar and guitar in this show.
