show moreChronicling a potent turning point in our nation’s history, HELL ON WHEELS documents the railroad’s engineering and construction, as well as institutionalized corruption, the immigrant experience, the rich history of Chinese workers and the plight of newly emancipated African-Americans during Reconstruction, ultimately showing viewers, week in and week out, just how uncivilized the business of civilization can be.
In HELL ON WHEELS: SEASON FIVE, VOLUME 2 – THE FINAL EPISODES (2 discs; Blu-ray/$39.98SRP + DVD/$29.98SRP), Bohannon finds himself in the mountain town of Truckee, Calif., home to the Central Pacific Railroad. This rough and tumble railroad town teems with thousands of Chinese workers, foreign in language, culture and traditions. Despite the challenges of corralling his new workforce, Cullen leads the Herculean effort to tunnel through the Sierra Nevada Mountains, sometimes achieving only inches a day in the race to complete the first Transcontinental Railroad. Across the final seven episodes, the push to finish brings with it a reckoning for Bohannon and the men standing in his path: the bloodthirsty Swede (Christopher Heyerdahl); the mercenary Chang (Byron Mann); and the rapacious Thomas Durant (Colm Meaney). And while the railroad’s completion is certain, who and what will survive when the golden spike is finally planted remains in question - with no one more at risk than Bohannon himself.
Across 57 episodes, HELL ON WHEELS: THE COMPLETE SERIES (17 discs; Blu-ray/$149.98SRP + DVD/$119.98SRP) unspools the fan favorite in its entirety. Winner of three consecutive Western Heritage Awards for Outstanding Fictional Drama, this epic 17-disc set delivers more than 40 hours of gritty, award winning entertainment which In Touch Magazine calls “Unforgiven meets Glory”. With the stunning landscapes surrounding Calgary standing in for the epic sweep of the West, HELL ON WHEELS brought the hardscrabble American frontier into living rooms across the country for five compelling seasons. Now, this completists’ box, available in both Blu-ray and DVD formats, gathers the series in one attractive set, giving fans the opportunity to relive this landmark Western again and again.
“Hell on Wheels” is executive produced by showrunner John Wirth (“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” “Falling Skies,” “The Cape”); Paul Kurta (“Veronica Mars,” Empire Records); Michael Rosenberg (“Hung”); Jeremy Gold, EVP Creative Affairs, for Endemol Shine Studios; and Mike Frislev and Chad Oakes from Nomadic Pictures (“Fargo,” “Broken Trail”). eOne's Debra Curtis, SVP Current Programming, and Armand Le
