In the vibrant world of Atlanta high school football, the excitement is palpable as teams battle it out on the gridiron. One of the standout performers this season is Lanier’s Tojuan Peyton Jr., who has cemented his status as the state's hottest running back. In a recent game, Peyton rushed for an astonishing 421 yards on 27 carries and scored all six of his team’s touchdowns, although Lanier ultimately fell to Roswell in a 59-42 thriller. The week before, he rushed for 283 yards and four touchdowns, and even added a fifth touchdown on a kickoff return in a 42-35 victory over Johns Creek.

Another notable performance came from Hillgrove's sophomore running back, Jaiden Moore. Despite being a second- or third-teamer, Moore seized his moment due to an injury, rushing for 255 yards and scoring on runs of 97, 51, and 67 yards. His efforts helped Hillgrove secure a 30-23 victory over crosstown rival McEachern.

The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes are continuing their tradition of excellence, despite graduating all eight of their first-team all-region players from last year's state semifinal team. With only five returning starters, they have managed to remain undefeated at 9-0 and are ranked No. 2 in Class 5A, on the verge of their ninth region championship in 11 years.

Off the field, academic excellence is also being celebrated. Marcus Romain, a senior quarterback at Wheeler, has been named the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Romain boasts a 4.18 GPA and has passed for 519 yards and rushed for 412 yards this season, despite being limited to six games due to an injury. He is also a member of the school’s track team.

In terms of team efforts, Brunswick’s offensive line has been recognized as GHSF Daily’s Offensive Line of the Week. Comprising left tackle Chase Richardson, left guard Aiden Watford, center Garrett Wiggins, right guards Chris Wingster and Desmon Smith, and right tackle Kasi’yah Charlton, this unit paved the way for 707 total yards, including 425 rushing yards, in a 61-34 victory against Lakeside of Evans.

Flag football is also making waves, with Greenbrier’s senior quarterback Kenzie Horton being named GHSF Daily’s Flag Football Player of the Week. Horton passed for 255 yards and four touchdowns and caught a TD pass in victories over Trinity Christian and St. Anne-Pacelli.

As the season heats up, fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming games, including a matchup between a defending state champion and the team that won the same championship the previous season – a clash that promises to be one of the highlights of the week.
