This episode’s Thought Prompt features a clip from Th 2 Stubborn 2 Fail Podcast in which the guest was talking about using his job to fund his dream. And it brought about the thought of using your jobs as a means to prepare you for your purpose. We may have jobs we hate, but sometimes we need to take a different perspective and outlook on why we are there. What can I get from this job to help me take my career to the next level? Many are so focused on not being there that they forget why they are there. It is not to stay, but to get ready for elevation, so get the skills you need that will carry to the next level.
Whether you're making a resume for your first job, or improving upon a good resume you already have been using for years, it's very important to get the basics principles right before moving on to fancier resume writing tips.
Many are missing some of the most important basics such as ensuring your LinkedIn profile is included on your resume, adding an objective statement, highlighting your accomplishments and results that show you add value to the company, and using relevant industry keywords and HR language.
On the flip side, they are including things on their resume that don’t’ add value or is not needed such as references available upon request, activities and interest, and volunteer work that has nothing to do with the job they are applying for.
Bottomline, make sure your resume is relevant to the job in which you are applying and strongly demonstrates that you are the right candidate for the job.
The Viewer Question addressed giving a 2 week notice of resignation. In the comical Tik Tok video #imdrebrown makes fun of giving a 2 minute notice. While very comical, the reality is that you want to leave a job on a good note. You don’t want to put yourself in a bad light not knowing when you may come across someone later in the future. Leaving the right way says more about your character of who you are.
