Amy Sherman and John Gonzalez recorded this weekend's show at New Holland Brewing, which was hosting malt houses, hop farms and other industry reps to brew a special beer, "The Hollander," for Tulip Time.
On this segment (Segment 4), they interview Pub on 8th brewer Steve "Bert" Berthel, who talks about the Michigan Saison that was made with 100 percent, Michigan-grown products. Even the yeast strain comes from the U.P.
Bert also picks the show's "BEER OF THE WEEK":
Presque Isle-Pure Mich IPA
Pale Malt from Pilot, Empire, Motor City Malting and Michigan Malting; Brewers Malt and Dark Munich from Empire and Pilot
Hops:
Chinook-Empire to bitter
Summit Hops from Hop Alliance
Cascade and Centennial from Top Hops and Hop Yards of Kent.
64 IBUs, 6.5 ABV
Bert says: "It starts out with a nice malt flavor, and as you take more sips, it gets piney, resiny and citrusy; a wonderful hop charatcter that thoroughly embraces the malt we have...it's going to be an amazing glass."
