I speak with Martina, who was reported, investigated and suspended as a Private Homebirth Midwife in Australia.
After realising there was no way she could support a birthing woman wanting to birth at home on their terms, by remaining registered with the system, and noticing herself practicing differently in order to toe the line with APHRA - she saw clearly that she could not fix the system from within it, and resigned from the medical birthing system all together.
Martina talks about her journey to, and within, Midwifery, the unregulated investigation process she was taken through and the famous twin birth attendance that was the catalyst for her journey of awakening.
This is a transparent and honest discussion that every birthing woman should listen to, to understand what overshadows you when choosing a medicalised homebirth, as well as the woman you are hiring to be present at your birth.
