At an event in Huntsville, Ont., Scott Aitchison, the Conservative MP for Parry Sound–Muskoka, Ont., and former mayor of Huntsville, launches his campaign for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada. Aitchison joins Conservative MPs Pierre Poilievre and Leslyn Lewis, former federal Progressive Conservative leader Jean Charest, Ontario independent MPP Roman Baber, and former Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown in the race to succeed Erin O’Toole as Conservative leader.


NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh holds a news conference on Parliament Hill to discuss his party’s opposition day motion. The NDP is urging the federal government to expand its excess profits tax proposal to include oil and gas companies and big box stores. During the 2021 federal election campaign, Liberals had proposed to raise the corporate income tax rate on big banks and insurance companies by 3 per cent on earnings above $1 billion. The NDP leader is also asked about the work stoppage by CP Rail employees, Canada's defence spending and Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
