Kino Babylon is an iconic theater in the heart of Berlin Mitte. Opened in 1929 as a silent film cinema, the theater has gone through enormous changes in its 94 years - including wars, regime changes, the advent of sound and color in film, being abandoned - and being brought back to life to continue inspiring new generations of cinema lovers.
Jill speaks with Timothy Grossman, the general Director of the Kino, and gets to see a special screening of the 1927 silent film, 1927 silent film “Berlin - die Sinfonie der Großstadt” accompanied by a live orchestra.
Next, we hear an enticing August event roundup curated by Alice O’Brien including:
Garage girls
Dark Matter: Tensor
10 years of Pornceptual
Lakeside festival
Night of the museums
Hummus Festival
Eva Fabregas: Devouring lover
Our theme music is from Lucas Carey, with audio from Epidemic Sound. Cover art by Sian Amber Fletcher.
