Labor unions have fought for the rights of workers for hundreds of years, and their tenets of mutual assistance and equal rights for all have been a strong influence on the development of modern society. Though the United States uses a different date, most countries celebrate International Workers' Day on May First, to commemorate the bombing of Chicago's Haymarket Square and the subsequent miscarriage of justice that led to the convictions of eight men. This week's program showcases songs of struggle and solidarity from a range of artists including Woody Guthrie, Gil Scott-Heron, Ani DiFranco, Neil Young, and Paul Robeson.
