Story Transcript:
En: My novella starts on a gray day in the heart of Oslo. Lars stood on a bustling street. Tall buildings surrounded him. Cars passed by. Voices were scattered everywhere. It was by no means a special place, but it was his home.
En: Around Lars' neck was a scarf. He wore an old hat. His red nose peeked out between them. The winter in Oslo was cold. But what Lars struggled with the most was not the cold. It wasn't even the busy city life. It was something else, something strange.
En: Lars tried to say a word. It was such a beautiful word. But every time he tried, it sounded like he was choking on something. The word was "love". Oh, how he wished he could say it! He wanted to say it to the one he cared about. But his voice wouldn't cooperate.
Nb: Lars visste at han måtte øve.
En: Lars knew he had to practice. He took a deep breath. "Lov...", he tried, but it sounded more like "Glu...". He shook his head. He tried again, "Loo...", but it sounded like "Le...".
Nb: Tilfeldige folk gikk forbi. Noen ga ham rare blikk. Lars kjente hans hjerte pumpe raskt. Han rødmet og så ned. Men han visste at han måtte prøve.
En: Random people walked by. Some gave him strange looks. Lars felt his heart race. He blushed and looked down. But he knew he had to try.
Nb: Dagene ble til uker. Uker ble til måneder. Lars ga ikke opp. Han fortsatte å prøve. Han prøvde på bussholdeplasser. Han prøvde i parker. Han prøvde i dusjen. Han prøvde til og med i søvne!
En: Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. Lars didn't give up. He kept trying. He tried at bus stops. He tried in parks. He tried in the shower. He even tried in his sleep!
Nb: Det var en vårdag. Snøen i Oslo begynte å smelte.
En: It was a spring day. The snow in Oslo began to melt. Lars stood in front of a mirror in his apartment. He took a deep breath. Then he said it, "Love!". It was perfect!
Nb: Lars spratt opp med glede. Han løp ut av leiligheten. Han sprintet ned de travle veiene. Han kom til frederikshallen. Han klatret opp trappene fire om gangen. Pustende, banket han på en dør.
En: Lars jumped up with joy. He ran out of the apartment. He sprinted down the busy streets. He arrived at frederikshallen. He raced up the stairs four at a time. Gasping, he knocked on a door.
Nb: En kvinne åpnet døren. Hennes øyne var som stjernene. Hans hjerte hoppet.
En: A woman opened the door. Her eyes were like stars. His heart skipped a beat. "I..." he began. He took a deep breath. "I love you," he said. "I've been trying to tell you for a long time." He closed his eyes, waiting for her response.
Nb: Det var noen sekunder stille. Deretter brøt hun ut i en bredt smil. Hun kastet armene rundt ham. "Jeg elsker deg også, Lars," sa hun.
En: There was a few seconds of silence. Then she broke into a wide smile. She threw her arms around him. "I love you too, Lars," she said.
En: Lars felt a great relief fill him. He had finally done it. All those days of practice had paid off. He smiled back. He held her close.
En: So they went in, hand in hand. The sun had begun to set. The city was bathed in a warm light. And finally, in the busy city of Oslo, Lars had found his love.
