show moreThe focus of our service today is Mennonite Disaster Service. Mennonite Disaster Service is a volunteer network of Anabaptist churches that responds in Christian love to those affected by disasters in Canada and the United States. While the main focus is on clean up, repair and rebuilding homes, this service touches lives and nurtures hope, faith and wholeness.
Boulder Mennonite Church welcomes Jeff Koller as our guest speaker this morning. Jeff is the Regional Operations Coordinator for Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS), assisting those affected by natural disaster by rebuilding homes in their communities. He has completed training as a FEMA liaison and Secondary Trauma training through Wheaton College. While not on the road travelling to disaster areas, Jeff lives in McPherson, Kansas.
Our other guest this morning is our very own Brenda Fox. She has restored two airstream travel trailers which she will take to disaster areas in conjunction with Mennonite Disaster Service. While Mennonite Disaster Service does focus a lot on clean up, repair and rebuilding for homes, Brenda's Prayerstream work will complement the physical work with a space for spiritual rejuvenation.
Stay tuned to this recording to hear Brenda share how she will work with MDS. Then continue listening to hear Jeff's stories from the field. Visit the poorest county in California; hear about Pinhook MO where an African American village was wiped out one night when the Army Corps of Engineers intentionally breached a levee along the Mississippi... and finally, hear some stories from Texas where MDS is helping churches maintain their facilities to help them help the many asylum seekers making their way to their churches.
According to Jeff, Jesus calls us to "lay down your nets, your tools, your comfortable existence. come out from behind the pulpit. get out of the pews into the kitchen. love your neighbor." Let's join the service now to hear the full story.
