Black Caesar, often considered Australia's first bushranger, was a former slave who escaped after being transported to New South Wales as part of the British penal system. Arriving in the late 18th century, Caesar became one of the first criminals to terrorise the early Australian colony, where he committed a series of robberies. His audacious acts of banditry made him notorious, and his name became synonymous with early resistance against British authority.
