Me and my father, WB9EWF did an experiment during the solar eclipse where we listened to WSM in Tennessee since the D layer dissipated and opened up the F layer for that time being. My dad was at work so he was in the car and I was at my shack at my home QTH, we heard the station but it about a 5 by 9. I listened to the ham bands, but not very much activity mostly on 80m, 40m, 20m which I presumed that there would be more activity since the F layer open and solar eclispe was happening. Why couldn’t I hear very much activity on the lower HF but I did listen mostly on MW frequencies, but it was mostly difficult to really tell if there was a difference with the F layer open during the day and the eclipse occurring at the same time comparing to day and night activity lower and higher bands?
