show moreBorn and raised in Philadelphia, Payson taught himself how to play the piano and sing through listening to his brothers’ vast CD collection. Eventually, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the recording industry. While attending the University of Southern California, Payson joined the A cappella music group – the SoCal VoCals. The team eventually competed on the inaugural season of the NBC defunct singing competition: The Sing-Off. The SoCal VoCals took home fourth place.
After college, Payson Lewis took his talents around the world including performing with orchestras in Korea and Taiwan. He also starred in several theatrical productions in Chicago and Las Vegas and sang on several motion picture soundtracks. Payson also scored acting roles on hit shows and mini-series including How I Met Your Mother, Jane the Virgin, and The People vs. OJ Simpson.
He also released a plethora of covers, including Adele’s “Hello,” Taylor Swift’s “Out of the Woods,” and a mash-up of Rihanna’s “Work” and Zayn Malik’s “Pillowtalk,” that gained him lots of YouTube subscribers and a shout out from Perez Hilton. Payson Lewis’ original music has been featured on countless digital media outlets, including Hollywood Life, PARADE Magazine, and Vents Magazine.
In this edition of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Payson Lewis spoke about his experience on The Sing-Off. He also talked about several of his songs such as “Only Yesterday,” “Bad Influence,” “Sound of a Voice,” and “Nothing to You,” Payson’s most-streamed song on Spotify.
