STORY
Bible in a Year: The Little Girl and Bleeding Woman
Scripture
But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
Matthew 9:22
Have you ever felt utterly hopeless in the face of illness or death?
The stories of Jairus' daughter and the bleeding woman illustrate the incredible power of faith and Jesus’ compassionate authority over the most desperate situations. Jairus, a respected synagogue leader, was desperate for his dying daughter. His faith led him to Jesus, who agreed to help. As they made their way, a woman who had been suffering for twelve long years reached out to Jesus, believing that even touching His cloak would heal her. Her faith was rewarded with immediate healing.
What does the woman’s faith teach us about the power of belief in Jesus' healing?
Her act of faith, despite years of suffering, shows that true belief in Jesus' power can bring about miraculous change. It encourages us to reach out to Him in our moments of desperation.
How can you exercise faith in Jesus during your own times of suffering or need?
Upon arriving at Jairus' home, they were met with news of the girl's death. But Jesus, undeterred, asked the mourners to leave and entered the girl’s room. With a simple command, He brought her back to life, demonstrating His ultimate authority over death.
What does Jesus’ raising of Jairus' daughter teach us about His power over death?
This miracle reassures us that Jesus holds power over life and death, and nothing is beyond His control. It offers hope that even in the darkest moments, Jesus has the authority to bring life and restoration.
How does this story impact your understanding of Jesus' role in your life?
Reflecting on these events, we see that Jesus responds to faith with compassion and power. He is not only willing to heal but is also able to restore life. These stories challenge us to deepen our faith and trust in His divine authority.
REFLECTION
Reflect on your own moments of despair or hopelessness. Are there areas in your life where you need to reach out in faith to Jesus?
This week, take a step of faith, trusting in Jesus' power to heal and restore. Whether you are facing physical illness, emotional pain, or a situation that seems beyond hope, believe that Jesus has the authority over it.
PRAYER
“And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.”
LUKE 8:47
Jesus You are the author of life. You are the one that can make dead things alive again and with this truth I release faith and anticipation into my day! I believe with my whole heart that when life deals me blows of disappointment, and I’m bleeding defeat from within, that just one touch from You can change everything. When my faith is low and my energy is drained, position me, Holy Spirit, in the place where Jesus is, so that I can receive my healing and restoration. I don’t care about what others are saying or about how many times I get knocked down, I will not stop until I am restored and made whole. In the same way You healed the girl, Jesus, I pronounce healing and life to flow into every place of my life! Because You are willing Jesus, I realize that as I activate my faith like Jairus, dormant dreams and dormant promises will arise to need my attention and affection! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
