The building to the left in front of you is the headquarters of the North-Rhine-Westphalia Regional Parliament. The “Neue Landtag” (new state parliament) was ceremoniously initiated in 1988. It is one of the few parliament buildings that have been built especially for this purpose. Its architecture is designed to signal openness and transparency. Six half-round partial structures are grouped around the circular assembly hall. Numerous glass facades and a glass elevator in the middle of the town hall are designed to highlight the desired character. From the entrance on the opposite side, you can see the Stadttor (city gate), a 22-story office complex that was built in 1998. The state solicitor’s office, the Office of the Prime Minister, is located here as well.
