Cal State Fullerton Pitching Coach Dan Ricabal took time out of his schedule to discuss his role with the Titan baseball program.
Ricabal was a right handed pitcher transfer from Cerritos College and earned All-American honors at Cal State Fullerton in 1993 and was an integral part of the Titans' 1994 College World Series team. He played professionally for the Dodgers and Giants organizations before landing coaching jobs in the Cape Cod League, College of the Canyons, UC Santa Barbara, The Angels minor league system, Loyola Marymount, Long Beach State and now at Cal State Fullerton.
We discuss Dan Ricabal's path back to campus from being a young man in the San Gabriel Valley and playing baseball, through his college and professional baseball career, getting into coaching to coming full circle and joining the Titans in 2019. We also discuss his approach to coaching pitchers, how recruiting differs from a high school athlete to a Junior College athlete, his first impressions on this year's Titan Baseball pitching staff including praise for Tanner Bibee, Michael Knorr, Joe Magrisi, Dillon Brown among others. At the end, Ricabal shares what goes into a successful mound visit and also his thoughts on how the staff performed at the UNLV exhibition, weekend intrasquad games and expectations for the upcoming UCSD exhibition game.
