show moreOver the last dozen years, DJ Burn One has cemented a reputation as one of the modern South's most influential and innovative musicians. Known for producing trunk-rattling and deeply funky hip-hop, DJ Burn One began releasing mixtapes as a high school student, leading to the first part of his legend. He educated Gucci Mane about the necessity of doing mixtapes and de facto executive produced the Zone 6 icon's seminal Chicken Talk.
As a tastemaker, the music producer is credited with helping Freddie Gibbs, Pill, and Yelawolf into the record industry. The Atlanta, Georgia native made the beat for "Houston Old Head," one of the most famous songs from A$AP Rocky's classic album: Long.Live.A$AP. His ear for talent continues to this day, as evidenced by his signing a then-unknown budding producer Pi'erre Bourne, enrolled in music school at the time, to his production team: The Five Points Bakery.
The Five Points Bakery offers a plethora of services on a full-time basis. Their clients include A$AP Rocky, B.o.B., David Banner, Gucci Maine, and Nicki Minaj. In addition, they have also created sound effects for Hollywood movie trailers, including 1917 and Justice League.
In addition to his work in the music and entertainment industry, DJ Burn One created Music Monetization 499 for the University of Illinois School of Music. The college course gives students the blueprint to succeed in the music industry. Students will also learn how to register with performing rights organizations (PRO) such as BMI and ASCAP.
In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, DJ Burn One spoke about his early days working in the music industry, including meeting George Clinton, and talked about the potential of taking Music Monetization 499 nationwide.
