We discuss whether morals are innate in us or whether we are driven by vested interest. We conclude that vested interest is a surrogate primitive survival reflex which if left unregulated will lead to chaos. Morals regulate our behaviour so that society functions without anarchy. They may after thousands of years be partially inbred but they are not enough to trump instinct. For that we need rules which cause fear as avoidance of fear is our main driver. We discuss how democracy, dictatorship and religion apply fear. Whereas the former two have to do it tangibly , religion does it abstractly. The same applies for pleasure. Democracy has instant gratification which is never enough , dictatorship mainly has a paucity of pleasure except for the most senior aids to the dictator. Religion again does this abstractly. The genius is that the abstract never disappoints as it never is expected to materilise in this life and the fear and pleasure quotient is only boundaried by imagination and which is limitless and unique to humans.
