Dr Pearse Keane:
Pearse is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and an associate professor at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. In 2016, He initiated a formal collaboration between Moorfields Eye Hospital and Google DeepMind, with the aim of developing artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for the early detection and treatment of retinal diseases. In August 2018, the first results of this collaboration were published in the journal; Nature Medicine. In October 2019, He was included on the Evening Standard Progress1000 list of most influential Londoners.

Yuan Gao is a postgraduate student studying ophthalmology at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. He and other students from UCL Institute of Ophthalmology founded the first student-lead ophthalmology society, the UCL Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences Society in 2020. He graduated from optometry school in 2020. He initiated the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology podcast in March 2021. He is passionate about advanced practice in optometry, eye care transformation, and medical/optometry education. He believes a stronger bridge must be built between eye care professions. It will take the eye care service into the next level which will benefit billions of patients across the UK.
