It's been a long time! Welcome back to the episode 003 of the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology Podcast.

In this episode, we speak with Dr Naz Raoof, a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Royal London Hospital specialise in paediatric and neuro-ophthalmology. Through this informal conversation with Dr Raoof, we talked about her medical student life at University of Oxford. Why she choose ophthalmology as her specialty; Why she decided to specialise in paediatric and near-ophthalmology; her experience being as a consultant at Moorfields as well as her overseas fellowship experience in New Zealand.

Dr Naz Raoof:

Dr Raoof is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Royal London Hospital. She trained as a doctor at the University of Oxford. She has undertaken two further subspecialty Fellowships at Moorfields Eye Hospital (UK) and in Auckland (New Zealand). She is currently a member of the Paediatric Subcommittee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK). Dr Raoof has a longstanding interest in teaching and training within Ophthalmology and currently holds the post of Honorary Clinical Senior Teaching Fellow at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, she is the programme director of Ophthalmology MSc. Dr Raoof has a longstanding interest in clinical research. As an Ophthalmologist in training, she has been awarded the Ivor Levy Prize at the Royal College of Ophthalmology Annual Congress (2013) for the best poster on a neuro- ophthalmology topic and also the Ian Fraser Cup by the Oxford Ophthalmological Congress (2014) for the best poster on a clinical topic.

Mr Yuan Gao (host):
Yuan Gao is a postgraduate student studying ophthalmology at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. He and other students from UCL Institute of Ophthalmology founded the first student-lead ophthalmology society, the UCL Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences Society in 2020. He graduated from optometry school in 2020 and starting he’s optometry training at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in July, 2021. He initiated the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology podcast in March 2021. He is passionate about advanced practice in optometry, eye care transformation, and medical/optometry education. He believes a stronger connections must be built between eye care professions. It will take the eye care service into the next level which will benefit billions of patients across the UK.
