However, in recent days the United States congress has voted to increase sanctions against Russian corporations, despite a reluctance from their European allies to do the same. In a swift response, Vladimir Putin announced that 750 US diplomats and staff would be expelled from Moscow immediately. It appears that the hopes for a diplomatic reset are over.
