After much anticipation, President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday last week finally signed the South East Development Commission Bill into law.
The signing might have come as a surprise to many given the delay that had characterised its passage in the time past.
The south east development commission bill first began its journey from the 8th assembly, and until he left office, former President, Muhammadu Buhari did not assent to the bill.
The latest signing by President Tinubu may therefore be seen as a major victory for the region especially as assent was given to the bill in less than a year it was presented before the parliament.
While the establishment of the SEDC is a commendable step, the true test will lie in its execution.
How should the commission go about achieving its mandate? What must it do to fulfill that mandate?
