Psalm 37:23-24
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
Please note here that a good man is not just about morals but foundation. A man whose foundation is in God and his steps are ordered by the Lord can fall but momentarily.
The term failing forward indicates a progressive path regardless of the down moments.
Because we live in a world where time is a factor, hence process, the journey sometimes is not necessarily a reflection of destination. Mostly, the true reflection of one's destination is in its foundation.
So as one whose Foundation is sure, how do you fail forward?
Philippians 3:13-14
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead I am single-minded: Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead, with this goal in mind, I strive toward the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
1. Know your foundation. Don't just have an idea of God, know Him. Know what it entails to be in Him - the totality of this relationship is beyond face value, it is so deep, so wide, so high, yet so intimate.
Don't stop at knowing about Him, adopting the language and being around the culture; know Him! Get personal.
2. Let goal. Run with your instructions, assignment and purpose. Sometimes, the goal is as simple as just living! Really living the life gifted to you.
Whatever the goal is, run with it single-mindedly. Don't go off comparing yourself with anyone, remember, your process may seem similar and your foundation the same but your destination is quite U-nique because there is the factor of YOU.
3. Let go. Let go of a minute, a day, a month, a year, a decade, a life ago. Let go of its fangs. You cant hold on to a past and not expect to be tied down - the past is what it is: past so if you hold on to it, it is no rocket science, you can't move as fast.
This isn't just about negatives but even positives - allow its progressive moulding in you (its nourishment) but travel as light as possible.
4. Have a forward call. There is always room for improvement, more and diversity. Going forward is never boring because it really doesn't have to be in that box of labels. Make it an upward call, Strive! Strive!! Strive!!!
You seem done with one goal at 48, strive for more - as long as you have life, one thing you will always be required to do is live!
John Maxwell said the difference between average people and achieving people is their perception of and response to...failure.
I pray as you go on living, you see that failure is just momentary falling and you respond rightly by always moving forward in God in Jesus name, amen.
