In this podcast, we talk about Robert Eggers’ remake of “Nosferatu” (2024), which compares it to the 1922 classic and the 1979 remake. We praise the acting performances of Bill Skarsgård and Lily-Rose Depp as well as the impressive cinematography, which harks back to the expressionistic style of the original.

However, we also criticize the extended plot involving another storyline for making the film drag a little bit. In the end, our question of which “Nosferatu” film is the best remains undecided, as each film has its own focus and strengths.

Summary:

Inspired by Bram Stoker’s novel “Dracula” the film tells the story of Thomas Hutter, who lives in the tranquil German town of Wisborg. An employee of a real estate company, he is married to Ellen, who often has melancholic moments.

Hutter’s boss, Knock, sends him to Transylvania to Count Orlok’s castle, as the Count wishes to buy a house in Wisborg. During the contract negotiations, Orlok is particularly taken with a strand of hair of Hutter’s wife.

Hutter soon recognizes the evil he is dealing with. However, he is imprisoned while Orlok, bringing the plague with him, makes his way by ship to Wisborg.

A race against time begins. Can Hutter escape captivity and save his wife and the town of Wisborg from evil?

A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.
