Australian punk/rock duo 3REE are a band who live by the motto “If You Don’t Ask, You Don’t Get.”
This is highlighted by the fact that the duo’s last two songs have seen collaborations from household names like Machine Gun Kelly and Kellin Quinn from Sleeping With Sirens.
The latter, Set This Place On Fire, is a tune containing elements of rock, punk and metal, all accentuated by the reognisable guest vocals provided by Quinn.
Vocalist/guitarist Mitch Volcan and drummer Sean Tighe joined HEAVY to chat about the new single.
"When we were writing this track our heads were in the space of we're in the middle of COVID, we can't do what we love, Sean lives in Perth and I live in Sydney, and we just wrote a song about finding the strongest version of yourself,” Volcan began. “You often find that strongest version of yourself when you're at your lowest point which we were. It was like, can we continue? Can this go on? Is it achievable being a young band in a pandemic? We took out our frustrations while writing this song and it shows. There's a bit of emotion behind it and it can be interpreted in so many different ways. When you're going through anything in life you usually find the strongest version of yourself."
In the full interview the boys talk us through the new track in greater detail, getting Quinn as guest vocalist and making it work, future music, balancing different genres to sound cohesive, living in separate states and how they get around it and more.
