Bill Federer, The American Minute creator, nationally known speaker, and best-selling author, helps us remember the first national celebration of a holiday. It all started on October 3, 1789, when George Washington issued his Thanksgiving proclamation, designating for “the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving” to be held on “Thursday the 26th day of November.” This marked the first national celebration of a holiday that has become commonplace in today's households.
