The public became invested in the case, with social media campaigns and appeals for information.On September 19, 2021, human remains were discovered in a remote area of the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming, consistent with the description of Gabby Petito. Later, the Teton County Coroner's Office officially confirmed the remains belonged to Gabby, ruling her death a homicide.
