Jess Byard July, this year all about surrealist films, nears its end with a Leos Carax film that flew under our radar for far too long, but no longer. Holy Motors stars Denis Lavant as Mr. Oscar, who is chauffeured around Paris by Édith Scob's Céline from one job to the next, portraying bizarre, upsetting, and even mundane characters, with Eva Mendes, Kylie Minogue, and Michel Piccoli along the way. It's a musing on acting and the role actors play in the media they create, and it's more fun than most of what's come out of the big Hollywood system in the last ten years. Mike White of The Projection Booth joins the episode to talk French surrealism, Lavant's performance, and the film's many layers of interpretation.
Mike White of The Projection Booth joins Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, to talk Leos Carax, Denis Lavant, French surrealism, and so much more.
