It is an interesting fact in the Bible that the word “sorry” only appears twice, and in neither is someone apologizing, but rather it is used to describe a feeling. One example is the Egyptian princess who draws Moses from the Nile in the basket does so because she “feels sorry” for the child. Likewise, the word “apologize” is not found in the Bible in any form. “Forgive”, though, is a word constantly used in both the Old and New Testaments. In listening to many “sorry” or “apologizing” songs this week, I was struck by the way the word is used. Some songs claim that “Sorry” is a difficult word to say, whereas others see it as an empty and hollow word with no meaning. What should “sorry” mean? What value does it have in the act of forgiving? How can it be both packed with meaning and light and meaningless at the same time? This JJ episode really does some analyzing work of what is perhaps the most important teaching from the Bible. It is at least in the top 2, second only to “Love,” but we must admit there is a connection between Love and Forgiveness, no? At least it certainly is in the steadfast loving character of God, shown to us by his gift of his son, through Love yes, and in extending love we find, yes, “Forgiveness.” This is an important message here, and the songs are great. Classics by Chicago, Elton John, John Denver, and Randy Travis, surprisingly powerful songs by Gary Allan, the Cranberries, John Legend, and a great new song written by Ryan Adams. There is something here for everyone. I hope you can watch, and most importantly, share, pass it on to a friend, leave a comment. All of these simple actions help spread this ministry!
