Josué 24: Cuídate del pasado y del futuro.

Josué 24:14:
»Ahora pues, teman al SEÑOR. Sírvanle con integridad y con fidelidad. Quiten de en medio los dioses a los cuales sirvieron sus padres al otro lado del Río y en Egipto, y sirvan al SEÑOR. Pero si les parece mal servir al SEÑOR, escojan hoy a quién sirvan: si a los dioses a los cuales servían sus padres cuando estaban al otro lado del Río, o a los dioses de los amorreos en cuya tierra habitan. Pero yo y mi casa serviremos al SEÑOR.
Entonces el pueblo respondió diciendo: —¡Lejos esté de nosotros el abandonar al SEÑOR para servir a otros dioses! Porque el SEÑOR, nuestro Dios, es el que nos sacó a nosotros y a nuestros padres de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de esclavitud. Delante de nuestros ojos él ha hecho estas grandes señales, y nos ha guardado en todo el camino por donde hemos andado y en todos los pueblos por los cuales hemos pasado. El SEÑOR ha arrojado de delante de nosotros a todos los pueblos, y a los amorreos que habitaban en el país. Nosotros también serviremos al SEÑOR, porque él es nuestro Dios.
Entonces Josué dijo al pueblo: —No podrán servir al SEÑOR, porque él es un Dios santo y un Dios celoso. Él no soportará sus rebeliones ni sus pecados. Si ustedes dejan al SEÑOR y sirven a dioses extraños, él se volverá y los castigará, y los exterminará después de haberles hecho bien.
Entonces el pueblo dijo a Josué: —¡No, sino que al SEÑOR serviremos!
Josué respondió al pueblo: —Ustedes son testigos contra ustedes mismos, de que han escogido al SEÑOR para servirle.
Ellos respondieron: —¡Sí, somos testigos!
Josué dijo: —Quiten, pues, ahora los dioses extraños que están en medio de ustedes, e inclinen su corazón al SEÑOR Dios de Israel.
Y el pueblo respondió a Josué: —¡Al SEÑOR nuestro Dios serviremos, y su voz obedeceremos!

En el último capítulo presenciamos un momento muy solemne e íntimo entre el pueblo y su apreciado líder.
Josué tuvo una gracia especial ante los ojos del pueblo, recibiendo el respeto y sujeción del ejército y los ancianos líderes de la congregación.
Ayer aprendimos acerca de las advertencias y consejos que él les dió para que fueran prósperos. En este capítulo vemos que él les advirtió acerca de los dioses que trajeron de Egipto y los dioses que conocieron en la nueva tierra prometida, Canaán. Él los confrontó y les dió la oportunidad para que tomaran una decisión definitiva para que ya no vivan en dos pensamientos: adorando al Dios Todopoderoso y, a la misma vez, a otros falsos dioses del pasado o del futuro. ¡Ellos hicieron un pacto con el Dios del presente!

Nosotros también debemos despojarnos de malos hábitos que hacíamos antes de conocer a Jesucristo. Muchos pasan por momentos de tentación y regresan a las antiguas obras. Otros se sienten seducidos por nuevas filosofías vestidas de espiritualidad o de nuevos hábitos que se van convirtiendo en tendencias y que la cultura intenta imponer en la sociedad, y que muchos caen en el éxtasis y la euforia, pensando que pueden servir a Dios y, a la misma vez, experimentando las nuevas costumbres.
¡La Palabra de Dios es clara! ¡Dios es el mismo de ayer, hoy y por los siglos! ¡Él nunca cambia! Es por eso que se mostró a Moisés como el “GRAN YO SOY". “YO SOY" implica que Dios es el Dios del presente y que anhela que sus hijos tampoco cambien; que sigan con las mismas convicciones de apartarse de cosas que manchan el alma, que dividen y destruyen los hogares, que separan a las parejas y que devalúan el valor de la familia.
No abras puertas pecaminosas en tu vida porque esto puede repercutir en tu familia y en tu vida.
Saca tiempo para hablar con tu familia para establecer líneas claras de lo que van a creer y poner en práctica en la relación con Dios.
Es necesario que con diligencia reunamos a los miembros del hogar para hacer un pacto delante de Dios, y continuamente renovarlo. Así como las parejas que renuevan sus votos cada ciertos años, propongan en su corazón continuamente renovar ese pacto de pureza, fortaleza y santidad, de no permitir que cosas como la inmoralidad, el irrespeto, y la malicia crezcan en el hogar.
Si no hacemos esto, entonces estarás solo en el momento de sobresalir espiritualmente y los demás estarán confundidos en el momento de la prueba.
Instruye con paciencia, amor y respeto las normas espirituales y morales para que así puedas decir: ¡Mi casa y yo serviremos al Señor!

Al final, este pacto fue tan firme que la siguiente generación cumplió con esta promesa como lo registra el verso 31: “Israel sirvió al SEÑOR todo el tiempo de Josué y todo el tiempo de los ancianos que sobrevivieron a Josué, quienes conocían todas las obras que el SEÑOR había hecho por Israel.”

Joshua 24: Beware of the past and the future.

Joshua 24:14-26:
“Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
So the people answered and said: “Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods; for the Lord our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed. And the Lord drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the Lord, for He is our God.”
But Joshua said to the people, “You cannot serve the Lord, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you, after He has done you good.”
And the people said to Joshua, “No, but we will serve the Lord!”
So Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord for yourselves, to serve Him.”
And they said, “We are witnesses!
“Now therefore,” he said, “put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the Lord God of Israel.”
And the people said to Joshua, “The Lord our God we will serve, and His voice we will obey!”
So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
Then Joshua wrote these words in the Book of the Law of God. And he took a large stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of the Lord.

In the last chapter we witness a very solemn and intimate moment between the people and their esteemed leader.
Joshua had a special grace in the eyes of the people, receiving the respect and subjection of the army and the elder leaders of the congregation.
Yesterday we learned about the warnings and advice he gave them to be prosperous. In this chapter we see that he warned them about the gods they brought from Egypt and the gods they met in the new promised land, Canaan. He confronted them and gave them the opportunity to make a final decision so that they no longer live in two thoughts: worshiping the Almighty God and, at the same time, other false gods of the past or future. They made a pact with the God of the present!

We too must get rid of bad habits that we did before knowing Jesus Christ. Many go through moments of temptation and return to the old works. Others feel seduced by new philosophies dressed in spirituality or new habits that are becoming trends and that culture tries to impose on society, and that many fall into ecstasy and euphoria, thinking that they can serve God and, at the same time, experiencing the new customs.
God's Word is clear! God is the same yesterday, today and forever! He never changes! That is why He showed Himself to Moses as the "GREAT I AM". "I AM" implies that God is the God of the present and that He longs for His children not to change either; that they continue with the same convictions of moving away from things that stain the soul, that divide and destroy homes, that separate couples and that devalue the value of the family.
Do not open sinful doors in your life because this can affect your family and your life.
Take time to talk with your family to establish clear lines of what you are going to believe and put into practice in your relationship with God.
It is necessary that we diligently gather the members of the home to make a covenant before God, and continually renew it. Just like couples who renew their vows every certain years, propose in your heart to continually renew that pact of purity, strength and holiness, of not allowing things like immorality, disrespect, and malice to grow in the home.
If we don't do this, then you will be alone when it comes to excelling spirituality and others will be confused at the time of testing.
Instruct with patience, love and respect the spiritual and moral norms so that you can say: My house and I will serve the Lord!

In the end, this pact was so firm that the next generation fulfilled this promise as recorded in verse 31: “Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had known all the works of the Lord which He had done for Israel.”
