Josué 6: ¡En la obediencia y la perseverancia está la victoria!

Josué 6:1-11:
Jericó estaba cerrada y atrancada por causa de los hijos de Israel. Nadie entraba ni salía. Pero el SEÑOR dijo a Josué: —Mira, yo he entregado en tu mano a Jericó, a su rey y a sus hombres de guerra. Asediarán la ciudad ustedes, todos los hombres de guerra, yendo alrededor de la ciudad una vez. Esto harán durante seis días. Siete sacerdotes llevarán siete cornetas de cuernos de carnero delante del arca. Al séptimo día darán siete vueltas a la ciudad, y los sacerdotes tocarán las cornetas. Y sucederá que cuando hagan sonar prolongadamente el cuerno de carnero, cuando oigan el sonido de la corneta, todo el pueblo gritará a gran voz, y el muro de la ciudad se derrumbará. Entonces el pueblo subirá, cada uno hacia adelante.
Josué hijo de Nun llamó a los sacerdotes y les dijo: —Lleven el arca del pacto, y que siete sacerdotes lleven siete cornetas de cuernos de carnero delante del arca del SEÑOR. —Dijo, además, al pueblo—: Pasen y rodeen la ciudad. Los que están armados pasen delante del arca del SEÑOR.
Sucedió, después que Josué había hablado al pueblo, que los siete sacerdotes, llevando las siete cornetas de cuernos de carnero delante del arca del SEÑOR, pasaron y tocaron las cornetas. El arca del pacto del SEÑOR los seguía. La vanguardia iba delante de los sacerdotes que tocaban las cornetas, y la retaguardia iba detrás del arca, tocando prolongadamente las cornetas. Pero Josué mandó al pueblo diciendo: —Ustedes no gritarán ni harán oír su voz ni saldrá palabra de su boca hasta el día que yo diga: “¡Griten!”. Entonces gritarán.
Así él hizo que el arca del SEÑOR diera una vuelta alrededor de la ciudad; y regresaron al campamento, donde pasaron la noche. Josué se levantó muy de mañana, y los sacerdotes tomaron el arca del SEÑOR. Los siete sacerdotes que llevaban las siete cornetas de cuernos de carnero caminaron delante del arca del SEÑOR tocando las cornetas prolongadamente, mientras caminaban, y la vanguardia iba delante de ellos. La retaguardia iba detrás del arca del SEÑOR, mientras tocaban las cornetas prolongadamente. Así dieron una vuelta a la ciudad el segundo día y regresaron al campamento. De esta manera hicieron durante seis días.

Este evento que leemos en este capítulo es uno de los más conocidos en la historia bíblica. La forma sobrenatural que Dios guió a su pueblo para conquistar la primera ciudad al otro lado del Jordán. ¡Para Josué no era nada raro que Dios hiciera cosas extrañas para mostrar su poder y su gloria ante el pueblo y darles la victoria de forma sobrenatural! Al dar una vuelta por tres días alrededor de Jericó, y al séptimo día dar 7 vueltas a la ciudad no era una estrategia militar común. La clave era que el arca de Dios estuviera en medio de ellos y los sacerdotes marchando, tocando trompetas. ¡Al final de los 7 días, todos gritaron y se cayeron las murallas!
Afortunadamente este increíble milagro ha sido corroborado por la ciencia de la arqueología. Los expertos han cavado y descubierto estas murallas totalmente colapsadas como fichas de dominó.

De la misma manera, debemos ser sensibles a la voz de Dios para escuchar sus planes divinos, y ayudarnos a derribar todas esas murallas que estén al frente nuestro.
La clave aquí fue la obediencia y la perseverancia. Josué y el pueblo creyeron plenamente en el extraño plan del Señor. Ellos confiaron en el Señor al dar las vueltas requeridas, sin temer que los atacaran o los sorprendieran. Ellos dieron esos pasos con una fe plena que el Señor iba delante de ellos peleando. Ellos no temieron al ver esa gran muralla porque estaban reclamando la ciudad a medida que iban dando vueltas y adorando al Señor.

El apóstol Pablo nos confirma esta enseñanza acerca de la obediencia en su carta a los Corintios; leamos 2 Corintios 10:4-6: “... porque las armas de nuestra milicia no son carnales sino poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas. Destruimos los argumentos y toda altivez que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios; llevamos cautivo todo pensamiento a la obediencia de Cristo, y estamos dispuestos a castigar toda desobediencia, una vez que la obediencia de ustedes sea completa....".

Y acerca de la perseverancia él nos dice en Gálatas 6:9: “No nos cansemos, pues, de hacer el bien porque a su tiempo cosecharemos, si no desmayamos.”

La obediencia a la Palabra de Dios, a los consejos de los apóstoles en sus cartas y nuestros pastores en nuestras congregaciones son fuentes de sabiduría para que no cometamos errores que después vamos a lamentar.
Y esa obediencia a la voz de Dios combinada con perseverancia, siendo fieles todos los días y sin desviarnos en ningún momento traen a nuestras vidas grandes ventajas: destruyendo fortalezas de temor, miedo y destrucción en contra de nuestras familias.
Esto es maravilloso, cuando nos dejamos guiar por el Señor, por más que se burlen de nosotros o pensemos que el problema que enfrentamos es muy grande.
¡Persevera, no te detengas! ¡Obedece a la voz de Dios!

Joshua 6: The victory is in obedience and perseverance!

Joshua 6:1-11:
Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”
Then Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.” And he said to the people, “Proceed, and march around the city, and let him who is armed advance before the ark of the Lord.”
So it was, when Joshua had spoken to the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the Lord advanced and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them. The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard came after the ark, while the priests continued blowing the trumpets. Now Joshua had commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout or make any noise with your voice, nor shall a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I say to you, ‘Shout!’ Then you shall shout.” So he had the ark of the Lord circle the city, going around it once. Then they came into the camp and lodged in the camp.

This event we read about in this chapter is one of the best known in biblical history. The supernatural way that God led His people to conquer the first city across the Jordan. For Joshua it was not unusual for God to do strange things to show His power and glory before the people and supernaturally give them victory! Going around Jericho for three days, and on the seventh day going around the city 7 times was not a common military strategy. The key was that the ark of God was in the middle of them and the priests were marching, blowing trumpets. At the end of the 7 days, everyone screamed and the walls fell down!
Fortunately this incredible miracle has been corroborated by the science of archaeology. Experts have dug up and discovered these totally collapsed walls like dominoes.

In the same way, we must be sensitive to the voice of God to listen to His divine plans, and to help us break down all those walls that are in front of us.
The key here was obedience and perseverance. Joshua and the people fully believed in the strange plan of the Lord. They trusted in the Lord by going around the required circles, not fearing being attacked or surprised. They took those steps with full faith that the Lord was going before them fighting. They weren't afraid when they saw that great wall because they were reclaiming the city as they went around and worshiped the Lord.
The apostle Paul confirms this teaching about obedience in his letter to the Corinthians; let's read 2 Corinthians 10:4-5: “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”
And about perseverance he tells us in Galatians 6:9: “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

Obedience to the Word of God, to the advice of the apostles in their letters and our pastors in our congregations are sources of wisdom so that we do not make mistakes that we will later regret.
And that obedience to the voice of God combined with perseverance, being faithful every day and not deviating at any time brings great advantages to our lives: destroying strongholds of fear, fear and destruction against our families.
This is wonderful, when we allow ourselves to be guided by the Lord, no matter how much they make fun of us or we think that the problem we face is very big.
Persevere, don't stop! Obey the voice of God!
