In Toronto, Mark Hancock, national president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), and Laura Walton, president of the Ontario School Board Council of Unions, announce they have received confirmation that the Ontario government will repeal its back-to-work bill for striking education workers. They also announce that CUPE will end its province-wide walkout and that both sides will return to contract negotiations, with students returning to schools on November 8.
Also taking part in the news conference are Bea Bruske (president of the Canadian Labour Congress), Karen Brown (president of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario), Lana Payne (national president of Unifor) and JP Hornick (president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union).
