Levítico 10: La importancia de la prudencia y sobriedad

Levitico 10:1-11:
1 Nadab y Abihú, hijos de Aarón, tomaron cada uno su incensario, pusieron en ellos fuego, pusieron sobre él incienso y ofrecieron delante del SEÑOR fuego extraño que él no les había mandado. 2 Entonces salió fuego de la presencia del SEÑOR y los consumió. Y murieron delante del SEÑOR. 3 Entonces Moisés dijo a Aarón: —Esto es lo que habló el SEÑOR diciendo: “Me he de mostrar como santo en los que se acercan a mí, y he de ser glorificado en presencia de todo el pueblo”.
Y Aarón calló. 4 Luego Moisés llamó a Misael y a Elzafán, hijos de Uziel, tío de Aarón, y les dijo: —Acérquense y llévense a sus hermanos de delante del santuario fuera del campamento.
5 Ellos se acercaron y los llevaron con sus vestiduras fuera del campamento, como dijo Moisés. 6 Entonces Moisés dijo a Aarón y a sus hijos Eleazar e Itamar: —No dejen suelto el cabello de sus cabezas ni rasguen sus vestiduras, para que no mueran ni haya ira sobre toda la asamblea. Pero sus hermanos, toda la casa de Israel, llorarán a los quemados, a quienes el SEÑOR quemó. 7 Tampoco salgan de la entrada del tabernáculo de reunión, no sea que mueran; porque el aceite de la unción del SEÑOR está sobre ustedes.
Ellos hicieron conforme a la palabra de Moisés. 8 Entonces el SEÑOR habló a Aarón diciendo:
9 —Ni tú ni tus hijos contigo beberán vino ni licor, cuando tengan que entrar en el tabernáculo de reunión, para que no mueran. Esto será un estatuto perpetuo a través de sus generaciones, 10 para hacer diferencia entre lo santo y lo profano, entre lo impuro y lo puro, 11 y para enseñar a los hijos de Israel todas las leyes que el SEÑOR les ha dicho por medio de Moisés.

Este es un pasaje de la historia triste de Israel. Apenas estaban comenzando a acostumbrarse a los nuevos reglamentos de los rituales en la adoración a Dios, cuando dos de los hijos de Israel cometieron una imprudencia que les costó la vida.
Ellos se sintieron con el derecho de ofrecer incienso a Dios, pero era algo que no les correspondía hacer. Tal vez tomaron mucho vino fermentado, y estando bajo los efectos del alcohol perdieron el sentido común tomando decisiones apresuradas.
Es por esto que Dios tuvo que manifestar su poder porque Dios es un Dios santo y Él no puede convivir con lo inmundo. Moisés da la orden para que jamás Aaron, sus hijos y ni ningún sacerdote tome alguna bebida embriagante mientras estén en el servicio al Señor, pues podrían perder el sentido común y hacer alguna acción que vaya en contra del orden impuesto por Dios.

Es por eso que hoy nosotros debemos cuidar cómo nos comportamos como representantes de Cristo en la Tierra. Comenzando por dar ejemplo en nuestro propio hogar viviendo una vida sobria, sin perder el sano juicio para poder tomar decisiones con sabiduría y con cabeza fría, analizando cada acción, pues así no daremos cabida al enemigo.
No solamente el tomar bebidas embriagantes en exceso causa acciones imprudentes, también puede ser en un arranque de emociones. Un éxtasis de alegría, arranque de ira o bajo una nube de tristeza puede afectar nuestra razón al tomar decisiones precipitadamente que más adelante nos vamos a lamentar. Desarrollemos el dominio propio, la prudencia y la sabiduría para poder mirar las cosas con objetividad y no destruir nuestra relación con Dios, con nuestras familias y nuestros ministerios.
Pablo nos enseña en Tito 2:11-13: “Porque la gracia salvadora de Dios se ha manifestado a todos los hombres enseñándonos a vivir de manera prudente, justa y piadosa en la edad presente, renunciando a la impiedad y a las pasiones mundanas, aguardando la esperanza bienaventurada, la manifestación de la gloria del gran Dios y Salvador nuestro Jesucristo…”

Y en 1 Pedro 5:7-9, Pedro nos enseña: “Echen sobre él toda su ansiedad porque él tiene cuidado de ustedes. Sean sobrios y velen. Su adversario, el diablo, como león rugiente anda alrededor buscando a quién devorar. Resistan al tal estando firmes en la fe…”

Leviticus 10: The importance of prudence and sobriety

Leviticus 10:1-11:
Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. And Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke, saying: ‘By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; and before all the people I must be glorified.’ ”
So Aaron held his peace. Then Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, “Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.” So they went near and carried them by their tunics out of the camp, as Moses had said.
And Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and Ithamar, his sons, “Do not uncover your heads nor tear your clothes, lest you die, and wrath come upon all the people. But let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the Lord has kindled. You shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die, for the anointing oil of the Lord is upon you.” And they did according to the word of Moses.
Then the Lord spoke to Aaron, saying: “Do not drink wine or intoxicating drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, that you may distinguish between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean, and that you may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the Lord has spoken to them by the hand of Moses.”

This is a passage from the sad history of Israel. They were just beginning to get used to the new regulations of the rituals in the worship of God, when two of the children of Israel committed an imprudence that cost them their lives.
They felt entitled to offer incense to God, but it was not their place to do so. Perhaps they drank a lot of fermented wine, and being under the influence of alcohol lost their common sense making hasty decisions.
This is why God had to manifest His power because God is a holy God and He cannot coexist with the unclean. Moses gives the order that Aaron, his sons and all priests never drink any intoxicating drink while they are in the service of the Lord, because they could lose their common sense and do something that goes against the order imposed by God.

That is why today we must take care how we behave as representatives of Christ on Earth. Starting by setting an example in our own home by living a sober life, without losing our sanity to be able to make decisions wisely and with a cool head, analyzing each action, because that way we will not give room to the enemy.
Not only does excessive drinking cause reckless actions, it can also be an emotional outburst. An ecstasy of joy, outburst of anger or under a cloud of sadness can affect our reason by making hasty decisions that we will later regret. Let's develop self-control, prudence and wisdom to be able to look at things objectively and not destroy our relationship with God, with our families and our ministries.
Paul teaches in Titus 2:11-13: “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,...”
And in 1 Peter 5:7-9, Peter teaches us: “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith,...”
