Today we reflect on our conversation with our guest Jacqueline Baird and her journey to motherhood.   

If you haven't heard Part 1 and Part 2 of Jacqueline's touching story, click here to listen to her heartaches, trauma and miracles in becoming a mom.May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness month.  Women are at risk of complications from childbirth, including death and black women are nearly three times more likely to die after childbirth than white women.  Serena Williams, famous tennis pro, was almost one of them.

Serena shares her story in the book, "Arrival Stories: Women Share Their Experiences of Becoming Mothers," by Amy Schumer and Christy Turlington Burns. 

Serena was dismissed multiple times when requesting postnatal medical care and nearly died of a blood clot in her lungs.  She said,  "Giving birth to my baby, it turned out, was a test for how loud and how often I would have to call out before I was finally heard."

We discuss the symptoms of maternal mental health conditions.
