In Major League Soccer (MLS), a significant update has emerged regarding the 2025 Leagues Cup. Toronto FC will not be participating in the tournament due to a change in the format. Starting this year, only the top nine finishers from each MLS conference will be invited, and Toronto FC finished 11th in the Eastern Conference last season. This change aligns the number of MLS teams with the 18 teams from Liga MX that will be participating.

The Vancouver Whitecaps, who qualified under the new format, will not participate in the Leagues Cup due to their commitments in the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup and the Canadian Championship. MLS rules prohibit teams from participating in more than two domestic and/or continental competitions in a single season. As a result, the Whitecaps will be replaced by MLS expansion club San Diego FC. CF Montréal, who finished eighth in the East, will be the sole Canadian representative in the Leagues Cup.

Moving to international soccer, the U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) is gearing up for the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics women's soccer tournament. The USWNT, led by coach Emma Hayes and featuring players like Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson, and Trinity Rodman, will face Japan in their quarterfinal match. Other quarterfinal matchups include Spain vs. Colombia, Canada vs. Germany, and France vs. Brazil. The USWNT aims to continue their strong form, though they face stiff competition from teams like World Cup champions Spain and hosts France.

On the men's side, the U.S. men's soccer team has also qualified for the 2024 Olympics and will begin their campaign with a group-stage game against France. The men's tournament features a mix of established teams like Germany and France, as well as other contenders vying for medals.

In other international soccer news, there have been no major updates or controversies from the Premier League, La Liga, or Serie A in the last 24 hours. However, these leagues continue to see intense competition and exciting matches. For example, recent highlights include Newcastle's clashes in the Premier League, Juventus battling AC Milan in Serie A, and various thrilling matches in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1.
