Julien Cartonnet grew up in a family of musicians evolving in
the traditional music scene. At the age of 9 he started playing
the traditional bagpipes from the deep forest of Morvan, a small
area with strong musical heritage in burgundy. His father (Who
also plays the french bagpipes) taught him a lot on this
instrument and the way to play music for dancers.
Julien’s style has been clearly influenced by musicians like
Raphael Thiery or Pierre Hervé. He spent his teenage years
developing a rhythmic preciseness in jamming in many music
festivals creating many musical friendships.
When he was 18 years old, he created the band Re-Fût De
Chêne playing traditional music from morvan and making people
dance on it (traditional dances) around europe. From that time,
Julien started a musical career transporting his traditional
background from Morvan in different kinds of bands with the wish of making it existing in different versions and contexts. He played in a band called Lost Highway (based in the Netherlands) with Rock n’ Roll influences. He also played in a band with a very strong irish influence called Mister Klof. He is now playing with Topette!!, an anglo french acoustic folk band created in 2014
