AUDIO ONLY: ITVT is pleased to present another episode of “Televisionation,” our new video/audio podcast exploring how the advanced/interactive-TV industry is responding to the Covid-19 crisis.
This episode features John Lawson and Anya Shetler of the AWARN Alliance, an organization that is championing the use of ATSC 3.0/NextGen TV to reinvent how we warn people and provide them with news and information during emergencies.
Among other things, Lawson and Shetler describe the AWARN Alliance’s goals, membership and partnerships; explain why the organization believes that NextGen TV has the potential to revolutionize emergency alerting; and discuss how the warning and information-distribution systems it envisions could be used during an epidemic like Covid-19. They also provide an update on a pilot project that AWARN is working on in Washington, DC, which sees it bringing together emergency managers and local TV stations’ news directors to create new alert formats and collaboration models.
(Note: If you would like to share your thoughts on how the Covid-19 crisis will change the TV and advertising industries, and tell us what your company—or you yourself—are doing to prepare for this new reality, please contact us at tracyswedlow@gmail.com.)
