A fellow poet asked me this week about why it’s so difficult for me to accept a compliment…his look that of wonderment—his eyes quickly darting to assume a closer examination. My reply came to him through genuine love and trust. “I am not here for me. I don’t need my ego stroked to feel important. To watch your writing grow as well as all those who make up our circle is compliment enough.”
