Resiliency (Part 9)
Description
Welcome to Hot Topics! Join us on this special episode as host Laura Fragomeni has Gabrielle Crichlow as a guest on her "School Without Suffering" podcast! They talk about Gabrielle's...
show moreGabrielle opens up about her experience with bullying during her middle school years, where she faced torment for aspects such as her hygiene and weight. This harsh treatment took a toll on her mental health, leading to feelings of depression. Determined to escape her bullies, Gabrielle went to great lengths, traveling longer distances to and from school. She even made the brave decision to attend a high school farther away, hoping for a fresh start.
Fortunately, Gabrielle found some relief from bullying and depression in high school. She credits her favorite teacher for recognizing her academic abilities and recommending her for youth conferences. These experiences exposed Gabrielle to new places and people, igniting her passion for travel.
Driven by her desire to make a difference, Gabrielle pursued Psychology in college and Clinical Mental Health Counseling in graduate school. It was through her tutoring jobs that she discovered her true calling—helping students succeed. Today, Gabrielle runs a tutoring business (A Step Ahead Tutoring Services) that not only focuses on academic support but also provides social and emotional assistance to students.
Reflecting on her journey, Gabrielle acknowledges the profound impact bullying had on shaping her life decisions. She emphasizes the importance of proactively addressing bullying at all levels, rather than accepting it as an inevitable part of growing up. Join us as we delve into Gabrielle's story and uncover the power of resilience and the need for a kinder, more compassionate world.
Tune in to this compelling episode of "Hot Topics!" and be inspired by Gabrielle Crichlow's remarkable journey from victim to advocate, as she shares her insights on overcoming adversity and creating a safe and supportive environment for all.
