This is the story of an iconic female soccer player, Mia Hamm, who led her team to victory on numerous occasions and inspired a generation of young girls to take up the sport. Born in Selma, Alabama in 1972, she grew up in a family of athletes and began playing soccer at the age of five. She attended the University of North Carolina and became part of a team that would win four NCAA championships in a row.
She joined the U.S. Women's National Team and quickly became one of its stars, named the team's player of the year three times and FIFA World Player of the Year twice. But her impact extended beyond the field as she used her platform to speak out on important social issues and became an advocate for children's health, founding the Mia Hamm Foundation.
In 2004, she helped start the Women's United Soccer Association, the first professional women's soccer league in the United States, paving the way for future generations of female soccer players. Her name is synonymous with excellence, determination, and compassion, and she continues to be a role model, hero, and inspiration to us all.
