show moreMartine Jean is a Haitian-American filmmaker, producer and podcaster. She has spent time in Florida, and practiced law in Ohio, but eventually gave way to the warmth of Sunny California, where she now calls home.
Martine knew her mother. She even lived with her at one point in her life. But it was as an adult in the U.S., and not as a child in Haiti. Martine did not experience the nurturing side of her mother (Veronique) like others were able to. Every Mother's Day, Veronique's friends reach out to Martine and share their memories of Martine's mother with her. This sounds like a kind thing to do, however Martine has to live with the knowledge that her mother had the ability to be nurturing to others and not her own daughter.
Despite this daunting knowledge, Martine is free. She's free because she has forgiven herself and she has forgiven her mother. "It is what it is," and what it is is not Martine's fault. She has created a successful career in L.A., a feat in itself. She exhibits features of her mother daily, in her taste for coffee and her usage of perfume, both of which continue to be helpful in preparing Martine for a hard days work.
Martine shares some insights on how her job as a producer has changed, and what challenges Covid-19 brings to the world of reality TV. Martine's podcast, Film Bug, explores film producers and their experiences, it's a must-listen for an inside look at some of your favorite shows and movies!
