The first step towards learning to live with depression was accepting that it was a part of me. I couldn’t just ignore it or push it away. It was a real illness that needed to be acknowledged and addressed. This acknowledgement was freeing in a way, as it allowed me to let go of the shame and stigma that surrounded mental health.
