Susan Southard spent over a decade interviewing survivors, atomic bomb historians, physicians, psychologists, socials workers, educators, and archivists to unveil this critically-neglected story of twentieth century. By expanding our understanding of the atomic bombs and their impact, NAGASAKI will help shape public discussion and debate over one of the most controversial wartime acts in history.
About the Author
Susan Southard holds an MFA in creative writing from Antioch University/Los Angeles and was a nonfiction fellow at the Norman Mailer Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. NAGASAKI was the finalist for the J. Anthony Lukas Work-in-Progress Award, sponsored by the Neiman Foundation at Harvard University and the Columbia School of Journalism. Southard is the founder and artistic director of Essential Theatre, a professional ensemble now in its twenty-fifth season presenting interactive performances for marginalized communities. She lives in Tempe, Arizona.
