'We Are', the upcoming E.P from Brisbane melodic metalcore outfit Wildheart, may be small in stature but what it lacks in length it makes up for with content. Dealing with an array of social issues and problems that many bands are afraid to tackle, drummer Andrew Cooke argues that being in a band is the perfect platform from which to raise awareness.
"It's important that people relate," he stressed. "You can get onstage and talk about whatever you are passionate about and I think if you are a performer or a vocalist or a songwriter you have that platform and that microphone and you have the choice to sing about... I don't know... whatever you want. If you can use it and touch people and influence them to make a better change for themselves - if it's, for example, environmentalism and it's turning off your light before you leave the house - that small change has a ripple effect, even if it's something as simple as that."
In the full interview, Andrew discusses the E.P in greater detail, explains the meaning behind the recently released single of the same name, the musical influences that form the backbone of the albums sound, the importance of releasing music on a regular basis, the state of the Brisbane metal scene and what Wildheart do to make sure they don't get lost in the sheer weight of numbers of new music and bands.
'We Are' is released on August 31.
