Story Transcript:

Ca: Una tarde brillant a Barcelona, Martí i Laia, dos bons amics, passejaven amunt i avall per les Ramblas. L'energia vibrava al seu voltant, amb venedors de flors, artistes carrerjers i l'olor de la cuina catalana flotant en la calor del dia. En un impuls, Martí va suggerir que parasin en un restaurant proper per a una paella de marisc.
En: One brilliant afternoon in Barcelona, Martí and Laia, two good friends, strolled up and down Las Ramblas. The energy vibrated around them, with flower vendors, street artists, and the scent of Catalan cuisine floating in the heat of the day. On a whim, Martí suggested they stop at a nearby restaurant for a seafood paella.

Ca: "Però Martí, tens al·lèrgia als mariscs, recordes?", va dir Laia. Martí simplement li va fer un somriure astut i es va encongir d'espatlles.
En: "But Martí, you're allergic to seafood, remember?" said Laia. Martí simply gave her a sly smile and shrugged his shoulders.

Ca: Un cop dins el restaurant, amb l'olor a ajo i romer en l'aire, Martí va repetir la seva petició amb una excitació gairebé infantil. "Una paella de marisc, si us plau," va demanar.
En: Once inside the restaurant, with the smell of garlic and rosemary in the air, Martí repeated his request with almost childlike excitement. "A seafood paella, please," he asked.

Ca: "Estàs segur, Martí?" Laia preguntà una segona vegada, mirant-lo amb preocupació. Martí força la seva seguretat, creient que podia enganyar al seu cos si s'ho creia prou. Laia l'observava amb escepticisme però decidedorament no va dir res més.
En: "Are you sure, Martí?" Laia asked a second time, looking at him with concern. Martí forced his confidence, believing he could fool his body if he believed it enough. Laia watched him skeptically but decisively said nothing more.

Ca: Des que la paella va arribar a la seva taula, amb conjectures de brillants colors i l'olor del mar impregnada en cada gra d'arròs, Martí va començar la seva actuació. Va prendre un gambet i el va mastegar amb una exageració teatral. Al cap de pocs segons, la cara de Martí va virar a un color més proper al dels mariscs que estava intentant menjar.
En: As the paella arrived at their table, with an array of vibrant colors and the smell of the sea permeating each grain of rice, Martí began his performance. He took a shrimp and chewed it with theatrical exaggeration. After a few seconds, Martí's face turned a shade closer to that of the seafood he was trying to eat.

Ca: Laia, veient la situació, va començar a xiuxiuejar: "Jo t'ho advertia, Martí." Sense perdre l'actitud valenta, Laia va començar a acompanyar amb menjar altres plats de la taula, tractant de desviar l'atenció de la creixent inflor de Martí.
En: Laia, seeing the situation, began whispering, "I warned you, Martí." Without losing her brave demeanor, Laia started to accompany Martí in eating other dishes from the table, trying to divert attention from Martí's growing swelling.

Ca: Però Martí era tenaç. Va continuar menjant la paella, encara que ara la seva cara semblava més una tovallola que un rostre. Al final, amb la cara vermella i les mans tremolant, va fer un últim esforç per engolir un petit musclo.
En: But Martí was tenacious. He continued eating the paella, although now his face looked more like a towel than a face. In the end, with a red face and trembling hands, he made one last effort to swallow a small mussel.

Ca: Finalment, superat per les còmiques, però a la vegada penoses, circumstàncies, va haver de rendir-se. "Estic ple," va dir, recolzant-se al respatller de la seva cadira amb esgotament.
En: Finally, overcome by the comical yet painful circumstances, he had to surrender. "I'm full," he said, leaning back in his chair with exhaustion.

Ca: Laia es va riure, agafant la mà de Martí per consolar. "La propera vegada demanaràs paella vegetal, oi?"
En: Laia laughed, taking Martí's hand to comfort him. "Next time you'll order a vegetable paella, right?"

Ca: Martí, malgrat l'aventura, va riure i va assentir. "Sí, la propera vegada, Laia. La propera vegada."
En: Martí, despite the adventure, laughed and nodded. "Yes, next time, Laia. Next time."

Ca: Havien après una lliçó valiosa aquella tarda; res en aquest món val la pena passar pel dolor d'una al·lèrgia, ni tan sols per la millor paella marisquera de Barcelona. I encara que Martí va haver de prendre antihistamínics tard al vespre per contrarestar l'efecte de la seva decisión imprudent, l'hilarant aventura va valdre la pena per la història que podrien compartir als anys que quedaven d'amistat.
En: They had learned a valuable lesson that afternoon; nothing in this world is worth going through the pain of an allergy, not even the best seafood paella in Barcelona. And although Martí had to take antihistamines late in the evening to counteract the effects of his imprudent decision, the hilarious adventure was worth it for the story they could share in the years of friendship to come.
